What is enlightenment?

Discussing Point Omega in many cases leads us to the idea of enlightenment as a desired state of mind which supposedly is at present still rare and difficult to achieve, but supposedly is easier to achieve and more common after we have passed through Point Omega. On this page we will first give some short general statements about what we think enlightenment is and what enlightenment is not. Subsequently, we will add some more in-depth comments on the concept of enlightenment and about how it can be achieved, about what works and what does not work and about why this is the case.

Finally we will give some sources for further reading, we found very interesting.

Enlightenment is not:

  • A state of perpetual happiness and experienced love.
  • A state of knowing everything.
  • A state of personal power over oneself.
  • A state of personal power over one's (social) environment.
  • What ordinary religions bring you.

Enlightenment is a state in which:

  • Happiness is easier to reach.
  • Reaching happiness is not a primary concern any more.
  • Personal matters have lost their all overriding importance.
  • The person merges with the flow of events easily and automatically.
  • The person readily takes risks by deviating from tradition and common beliefs.

Enlightenment is:

  • What all organized religions promise to bring, but never do.
  • The natural result of personal growth, if unhampered; the birthright of us all.
  • The ordinary state of mind after Point Omega.
  • An unusual state of mind (before Point Omega); a state we vaguely seem to remember, but don't know how to reach any more.
